Privacy Policy
Effective November 2, 2026
- We never see your card number. Stripe handles every payment.
- We keep only what we need to run your rental, charge the right amount and help if something goes wrong.
- Your location stays on your phone. "Near me" on the map sorts stations in your browser. It's never sent to us.
- We don't sell your information, and we don't use advertising trackers.
This policy covers chargeamped.com and the AMPED charging stations. It explains what we collect, why, and who helps us run the service.
What we collect
- Rentals. Which station and slot you rented from, the charger's ID, when it came out and went back, where it was returned, and what you were charged or refunded.
- Payments. When you pay on your phone, Stripe takes your card or Apple Pay / Google Pay details directly. We only get a Stripe payment reference so we can place the hold, charge for the time used, and give refunds. We don't receive or store your card number.
- Receipt email (optional). If you add your email on the rent page, we pass it to Stripe, which emails your receipt. We don't keep it in our own records.
- Help requests. What you type in the help form: your name if you give it, your email or phone number, the station, and your message. If your phone has a recent rental, the form attaches it so we can look it up.
- Emails with us. If you email AMPED support or reply to one of our emails, we keep the conversation (your name, email address and message) so we can follow up.
- Venue requests. If you ask to host a station, we keep your name, venue, city, email or phone, and your message.
- Spam protection. When a form is sent, we save a scrambled code made from your internet address (not the address itself) so we can limit repeat submissions.
Card reader rentals
If you tap your card or phone on the station's card reader, that payment is run by the machine maker's system (WsCharge) and processed by Stripe. We don't see your card details. The station tells us which charger left, from which slot and when, so we can track the rental and its return.
Your browser and phone
- Location. The "Near me" button on the find page asks your browser for your location. It's used only on your phone to sort stations by distance and show you on the map. We never receive or store it. Map images come from OpenStreetMap, so like any online map, it loads the map area being shown.
- Saved on your phone. While you rent, the site saves a small note in your browser (the rental ID, the station and the start time). This lets the page show your timer if you close it, and lets the help form attach your rental. It's cleared once your receipt is shown. We don't use cookies.
- Stripe on the rent page. Stripe's payment form may use its own cookies to keep payments secure and prevent fraud.
How we use it
- To unlock a charger, end the rental when it's returned, and charge the right amount.
- To answer help requests, give refunds and handle disputes.
- To keep stations working: knowing which are online, full or out of charged batteries.
- To follow up with venues that asked about hosting a station.
- To keep simple business totals, like rentals per station, which we share with host venues as numbers only, never with your name or contact details.
Who helps us run AMPED
We use a few trusted services. Each one gets only what it needs to do its job:
- Stripe: payments, holds, refunds and receipts.
- WsCharge: the station maker, which runs the stations and the card reader.
- Cloudflare: hosts this website and our system, and routes support email.
- Supabase: our database, where rental records and messages are stored.
- Resend: sends our email replies to you.
- Google: provides the fonts on this site, and a copy of support messages goes to our Gmail inbox.
- Pushover: sends alerts to our phones, which can include a short preview of your help request so we can respond fast.
- OpenStreetMap and cdnjs: map images and the map code on the home and find pages.
We don't sell or rent your information to anyone. We may share it if the law requires it, or to protect against fraud or theft of our chargers.
How long we keep it
- Rental and payment records: as long as we need them for bookkeeping, taxes, refunds and disputes.
- Help requests, emails and venue requests: while we're helping you, and for a while after in case the issue comes back.
- Station technical logs: deleted automatically after about 30 days.
Your choices
- You can rent without giving us your name, email or phone number.
- You can say no to sharing your location and still use the map and list.
- You can ask us to show you, fix or delete the information we have about you. Send a request through our help form. We may need to keep some payment records where the law requires it.
Kids
AMPED is meant for people 18 and older, or with a parent's or guardian's permission. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new date at the top.
